After Arjun Reddy-Kabir Singh, Petition Sent Urging Government To Run Disclaimer On Gender Violence Scenes
Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer Kabir Singh’s on-screen violence especially pertaining to the gender-biased scenes in the film caused an uproar in the entertainment world. Critics and fans of these films clearly we're divided into groups;  some favouring the visual treatment of gender violence whereas some were completely against it. Now a campaign has been run and initiated by a women’s rights organization to run a disclaimer on such scenes in the film showcasing the same just like the ones that pop up during a smoking and alcohol consumption scene.

According to reports published in a news agency, IANS, the campaign has managed to gather 50,000 signatures, wanting the government to set a rule of running a disclaimer in the movies wherever necessary. The said body initiating the campaign had issued an open letter and petition online, urging people to come forward and support the aim of this organization. Following a notable response online,  Sohini Bhattacharya, President, and CEO, Breakthrough is overwhelmed with it and hopes for the best going ahead. She said, “I'm happy that our petition on warnings and disclaimers for on-screen gender-based violence has received an overwhelmingly positive response. We strongly believe that our efforts at bringing about lasting behavioural change through means of popular culture and community-based actions will play a crucial role in ending gender-based violence."

A storm evoked when a scene from Kabir Singh, of Shahid slapping Kiara onscreen, didn’t go down well with a certain section of the viewers.

Kabir Singh, which is a Bollywood remake of Arjun Reddy, was also slammed by South actress Parvathy Thiruvothu during a round table conference. She said, “When a man is being misogynistic and abusive, and you show that in a way that incites applause in the audience, then that's glorification. There has to be commercial, there has to be fun, but without demeaning gender. I can feel lustful towards a character and not make it vulgar and dispensable. With respect bhi ho sakta hai. I'm definitely against such films which glorify such characters."
